The other day I was browsing YouTube and came across someone making 8 bit cookies. I did some research and found that they are biscuits made out of pixels. I decided to make a Jesus Christ cross biscuit. I chose a simple shape because I was experimenting. I would love to try more complex shapes in the future.
I made a basic sugar biscuit dough. I like the colour green so I made the background green and the actual cross yellow. I divided the dough, once made, into two portions. The one portion of dough bigger than the other because I will need more green. I then coloured both pieces of dough. It was very messy and my hands were very yellow and green. I read that if you put margarine on your hands before you colour it will keep the colour from sticking onto your hands. I am going to try that next time.
The next step is to now take the dough and put it through the fun factory. I used the square shape. The lady who made the biscuits put the dough in the freezer. I did that but it was very hard and I found that the softer the dough got the easier it was to push through the fun factory. My original plan for the biscuit, I discovered as I started putting it together, was too big. So I had to quickly lessen the size of it. It was a better size and not so big. I then put the biscuit together. Basically you build it like Lego blocks. You start from the bottom up. This is why it is very important to have a plan before you start.
The last bit was the baking and eating. I was surprised that they still kept their colour during the baking process. After they were baked I outlined the cross with edible gold glitter. I served the biscuits for a family function. By the end of the night the entire plate was gone. I enjoyed making them and it was a nice challenge.
