This week I decided to try a recipe out of my great great great grandmothers recipe book which I am currently trying to restore. This recipe is a simple biscuit recipe and it yields a lot of biscuits. If you like the look of these biscuits you can find the recipe just by clicking here.
The method is so simple. But there is a trick. You must not cream the butter and sugar at first. As you see in the recipe the creaming is done with the eggs and this gives it a lot of extra creaminess. I would suggest something though don't try and beat the flour mixture and the butter mixture together. Rather use your hands. I found that my beater started to overheat. Plus it's much more fun to use your hands. Especially if you are baking with a child they like to join in at this stage.
Now here comes my favourite part. Rolling out the dough. I know it is more effort then making them into balls but the end result is worth it. I was watching Bitten A tv food show by Sarah Graham and on there instead of placing the biscuits on the baking tray she rolled the dough out on the tray. Which I had never tried before and this time I tried it. Wow what a difference. I am not going to use a another method again. Tehillah has her own baking set so she also joined in on the baking and she made with her own rolling pin and biscuit cutters some butterflies. She had so much fun rolling them. And it is fun to teach someone how to make biscuits.
As they were baking everyone's mouths were watering and they couldn't wait to steal some. Everyone agreed that it was a delicious recipe and they can't wait till I make more. If you have any ideas on what I can try next please leave a comment or e mail me.
