Strawberry Twirls cupcakes
On Sunday the 3 February 2013 I made mini cupcakes. My younger cousin loves playing in my baking tin cupboard. His favourite is the silicone mini cupcake holders. We were having guests over so I decided to make them for after lunch dessert.
I love making funky cakes and strawberries. I decided to make the cakes strawberry flavoured. And to make them look more like strawberries I used pink food colouring. You can use any recipe but I just love my grandmother’s recipe, which is really simple. I made the batter and put it in the holders. Because the cakes are so tiny I only baked them for 10 minutes at 180° C.
After they were cool I made my own icing. I don’t like a very rich icing so I don’t make butter icing. Instead I use 2 tablespoons of butter to give it that creamy feeling. Then I add warm water. This time I used condensed milk flavouring and coloured it green. I didn’t know that green and pink looked nice together but it turned out beautiful.
My favourite part is decorating. I used a star tip and made a grease paper icing bag. I find it so much easier to use than a normal plastic icing pipe, it is more manoeuvrable and the best part is you don’t have to wash it afterwards. I went in a circular motion around the cupcake top. In the middle I put flowers that I had left over from a previous project.
Everyone one enjoyed them. By the end of the day they were all gone. Even my younger cousin wanted more. I will definitely do this again. I’m sure after reading this you will want to try them too.
